As we enter a new year and a new decade, I’m pleased to share the latest updates with you.
A Year in Review, the Decade Ahead
We kicked off the year by continuing our long-standing tradition of revisiting our goals and predictions from the previous year before making new ones for the next. In this 20 minute video, I chatted with our Co-Founder Jeff Hawkins and VP Research Subutai Ahmad about our 2019 progress and 2020 projections. Subutai gave an update on the effort he is leading to apply our neuroscience theory principles to machine learning problems. Jeff provided updates on the neuroscience research and gave a sneak preview of his next book, which he is currently writing. I ended by asking them to share their predictions of what lies ahead for Numenta over the coming decade. Numenta Events
Our 2020 calendar is filling up with several events where we’ll discuss our latest work. On Wednesday, January 15, our Community Manager Matt Taylor will speak at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension Meetup: Toward Artificial General Intelligence. Matt will livestream the event and make the video available on our YouTube account. In March, Subutai will present a talk at the O’Reilly Strata Data & AI conference titled, “How Can We Be So Dense? The Benefits of Using Highly Sparse Representations.”
Also in March, Jeff is an invited speaker at NAISys (From Neuroscience to Artificial Intelligence Systems), a new Cold Spring Harbor conference designed to highlight research at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. This four-day meeting will bring together leaders in the fields of neuroscience and AI to discuss how principles and insights from neuroscience can lead to better artificial intelligence. Registration is now open for this event.
Thousand Brains Theory Video
Last month, we released a new video on the Thousand Brains Theory of Intelligence, our framework for intelligence and cortical computation. The ten minute video walks through some of the key ideas in the theory and explains why we think hierarchy plays a different role than is currently modeled in today’s deep learning networks.
